Some time ago training on ellipticals meant burning calories and strengthening heart resistance. It has changed particularly because we can now perform round movements that incorporate the use of the arms as well as the legs. The requirements are simple, but the challenge is very real. A kettlebell snatch is the act of lifting the bell off the ground, swinging it back between the legs, and then snapping it out and up with the hips until the arm is locked out vertically. Pulling something from the floor to overhead is a snatch.

To pass the SSST, a man must complete 200 snatches in five minutes with a 24 kilogram kettlebell. The bell can be set down as often as necessary, and the trainee can alternate hands as often as they like. Unfortunately, it quickly becomes apparent that if you set the kettlebell down too often, you may run out of time.

The SSST is obviously wonderful for cardio, but the muscle building benefits of kettlebells should not be ignored either. If you can whip that bell up and down 200 times in five minutes, you are going to lose fat at put on some muscle during the workouts that eventually lead to the successful achievement of the goal.

For anyone interested in trying the SSST, there is nothing more important than quality reps. Make your practice perfect, don’t push too hard just to get more reps. At this level of volume, sloppy technique can really punish you. If you have never had any kettlebell instruction, I highly recommend seeking a trainer in your area before tackling the test.
